It is difficult to imagine a world without entertainment and thanks to folks like Dick DeVos, we don’t have to. In my opinion it would be quite boring. There would be no music to listen to or songs to sing. Without the arts, musicals would not exist. Dancing would cease to be and our children would have no outlets. Because, the performing arts thrive on donations, throughout the United States, it becomes apparent that a world without the arts could actually be.
Thankfully, there are many people who care and keep the lights on in the auditoriums both far and near. I am so very glad people like Mr. DeVos who understand the importance of the performing arts. If it were not for donors, the arts would not be sustainable and would crumble.
The Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation plays a huge role in keeping the theater open. Dick is the kind of person who takes the gift of wealth he has been blessed with and they share it with causes he believes in. The Kennedy Center for the performing arts is undergoing a bit of a makeover and they DeVos Family Foundation has recently donated one million dollars to the cause. This is not the first time they have given such a generous donation.
Perhaps one of the reasons DeVos was so inclined to donate to this project is because he himself has strong ties to the creative community as a bestselling author. His books Believe! and Rediscovering American Values detail his personal life, political journey and business acumen.
Dick DeVos’s, father was a co-founder of the Amway Corporation. Dick worked for Amway himself, in many different capacities for a number of years. The DeVos family also see the importance of sports as well and are the owners of the Orlando Magic. DeVos also flies planes and helicopters for sport as you can see by his stellar landing in the video below.
The DeVos family foundation have enhanced the lives of many by working within their state of Michigan as well to provide funding for local organizations. ArtPrize, is one of the charities and is an art contest. They also donated to numerous charities off the performing arts stage. To check out their charity profile, click here.
Both Dick and Betsy have centered their lives around their faith. They continue to hold onto the gorgeous example set by their parents, that life is about making a difference through serving. They also stay true to their Dutch-American roots and continue to be an example to their community abroad and at home.
It will be exciting to see what the Kennedy Center looks like when the building project is complete in 2018. I believe that their foundation has changed the lives of countless people and will continue to do so for the betterment of the United States and the world.
