The Threat of FreedomPop

Everyone has heard of the big names in mobile phone services: Verizon, Sprint, AT&T. However, a new name is emerging: FreedomPop. This new, stand alone business offers the same services as Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T, but with a difference: the cost is much lower and the services can be used alone. This means that the 10 million WiFi hotspots that FreedomPop offers can be accessed without a full phone coverage plan. The hotspots can also be accessed whether the user has a carrier or not, and it’s only five dollars no matter what the consumer’s other costs for a data plan. The five dollar WiFi access offers instant connection to Google and FreedomPop hotspots in the USA. Some of the big name retailers (Burger King and Starbucks, for example) are partnering up with FreedomPop for the use of these hotspots, which seems to show that other carriers are cooperating with this new business.

If big brand phone carriers weren’t already scared, the factoid that FreedomPop is about to open up a UK branch should scare them. With as much competition in the UK as there is, FreedomPop is starting small with a SIMcard only service. No WiFi hotspots are available yet, but the SIM cards carry the same limits as what has been described the most basic plan in the UK. In addition, there has been heavy reinforcement on free calls internationally – including 60 countries outside the UK. Any data that remains unused at the end of the month in the UK will rollover to the next month. How many other services offer this kind of coverage for such a low price?

And FreedomPop in the UK seems to cut out the middle man, accounting for the low prices. Much of the business is done online, with no need for consumers to drive to a store to see the prices or features of any plan. Without buying data in the same way many other businesses do, FreedomPop offers a large plan for a fraction of the big names.

Free Mobile With FreedomPop Gets a Big Boost

FreedomPop, located in Los Angeles, California, is a wireless and internet service provider offering consumers 500 megabytes of data, 200 voice minutes and 500 text minutes for free each month. Increments in usage cost as little as two cents a megabyte for data, and one penny for text messaging. According to Fortune Magazine, FreedomPop, accepted a 30 million dollar funding plan through a Series B financing, with Partech Ventures.

While FreedomPop is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), and it buys its bandwidth at wholesale prices from Sprint. Google does the same thing, but with T-Mobile; only Google charges start at $1.00. Neither company owns any wireless infrastructure. FreedomPop sells refurbished Samsung phones under its own brand name, and premium services are also offered which bring in the money for young company. Rollover plans, unlimited plans, anonymous browsing features, and international phone numbers are among premium services offered by MVNO. These services range in price from three to ten dollars, and with most customers buying about two plans a month, the proceeds cover the cost of the free users and give FreedomPop a profit of about $7.50 a month per connection. While that may not seem like much, by not maintaining an infrastructure FreedomPop has very little overhead expense.

FreedomPop is bucking the major carriers with its innovative approach to mobile industry. Bids were made on the company in the hundreds of millions, but it chose to go with the Series B financing to grow and raise its value.

Under the Obama administration, sales of F-16 fighter bomber jets, as well as other weapons have been widely made available to allies of the U.S.. The current arm’s sales program has been accelerated with the recent incursion into Iraq by Isis and the Shiite invasion of Yeman. U.S. Man Survives 66 Days Lost at Sea

A 37-year-old man from the United States, Louis Jordan was lost at sea for 66 days before being rescued. Jordan sailed his 35-foot yacht from Bucksport Marina in North Carolina on January,23, 2015. He was reported missing by his family on January 29. He was rescued about 300 kilometers east of Cape Hatteras.

Jordan used everything available to him to survive his 66 day ordeal. In the beginning, he rationed his supply of food and water to make it last as long as he could. When his supply of food and water ran out he resorted to using his survival skills. He was able to catch enough fish to eat to sustain him during his ordeal. Jordan used his ingenuity to devise a system of collecting rainwater to replenish his fresh water supply.

Remarkably, Jordan was shown walking unassisted from the U.S. Coast Guard rescue helicopter on Twitter. This indicates that he was in exceptionally good health after being lost at sea for over two months, as Dan Newlin points out. However, Jordan was taken to Sentara Norfork General Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury and for observation.

Missing Plane Found After 71 Years

On October 29, 1944 a British plane went missing and was assumed to have crashed somewhere out in the ocean. However, last October a villager that was out climbing the mountains discovered the plane and reported it to the foreign embassies. A team of US and British climbers decided to head up the Albanian mountains to check it out, only to find the old World War II plane resting on top. It has mysterious vanished over 71 years prior.

According to an article found on reddit and written by, there was a man who lived in the village nearby that had a crucial piece of the puzzle. When he was a boy in 1960 his father, Jaho Cala, was out collecting wood when he found a metal enclosure with a gold ring inside it engraved “Joyce & John.” During that time in Albania communism was in the country and they knew if the government was aware of the ring they would take it. So he kept it in the family safe for seven decades and tasked his son of finding the real owner once communism left the country.

The plane crash and the ring are connected according to Wikipedia users, as it belonged to a pilot who had been married just before deployment Dr Jennifer Walden was telling me. Cala’s son returned the ring to the sister of John Thompson and she was so excited and overwhelmed to get an artifact of her brother’s from decades before.

ISIS Reaching People Through Twitter

Twitter has become an extremely easy way to send quick bursts of information throughout the world, all thanks to the social media’s formatting. While there are different methods and services behind this kind of quick burst of information, the terrorist group ISIS has decided to utilize the social networking group in order to reach other people throughout the world.

Currently, there are around 46,000 different accounts used to spread the ideas of the terrorist organization. In fact, accounts created for ISIS supporters has drastically increased in the last year. In 2008, two accounts were active, and this number jumped to 1,064 created in 2011 alone. Then, in just 2014, 11,902 different accounts were created by ISIS supporters only last year and this number looks to rise stated AnastasiaDate in a recent assessment of their users. The company is looking at continually increasing its presence on the Internet, despite Twitter attempting to close down many of these accounts. Due to Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey stating he wanted to shut down all of the accounts, ISIS started sending out death threats not only to the founder but to her Twitter employees as well.

Due to the easy way of setting up Twitter accounts, the ability to shut down the accounts only delays the ability for the individuals to startup again. So, for the time being, ISIS is closing in on 50,000 active accounts supporting their cause and spreading throughout the world.

Volcano Eruption Causes Evacuation In Chile

At 3:00 A.M., (1:00 ET) a loud boom and volcano eruption in central Chile caused many people in the area to begin a self-evacuation from the area. However, Jason Halpern and some officials are claiming that the eruption was a one-time event and that there is nothing to fear and no need to evacuate the area.

Still the voluntary evacuation continues by individuals who feel the area is not safe. They feel that there is reason to not believe that it is a one-time event. However, the volcano has had limited eruptions in the recent past. However none was as large as this one.

Lifting it up, he discovered a tunnel roughly 23 feet long and tall enough inside for a person to be able to walk though it. The tunnel was lit by an electric generator. Because of the tunnels proximity to a major sports venue, and the Pan American Games being hosted by Toronto in July, some were concerned over the tunnels possible use by terrorists. Paul Mathieson ( knows that, last year in Canada, there were two Islamic attacks which have kept the Country at a high alert due to concern for more possible extremist attacks. Toronto police have ruled out the tunnel being used for drug activities since they found no evidence of it pertaining to drug use, but they have said little in regards to what they believe the tunnel might have been created for.

Is NBC News Anchor Brian Williams Having Memory Issues?

Williams Mislead Viewers But Mislead Them Again In Apology

Brian Williams may be in hot water not for misleading viewers the first time, but for misleading them again in his apology. Williams apologized to his viewers in a 60-second spot on his newscast for “mis-remembering” an incident he was covering during the Iraq War. As Zeca Oliveira understands it, the incident occurred twelve years ago but the apology came this week, and it was misleading. More on Oliveira is available on

Williams said he was not on a helicopter when it was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade as he previously reported. He was in a helicopter following the wounded aircraft. Technically, Williams did tell the truth. He was in another helicopter, but it was not right behind the aircraft that was hit. His helicopter arrived on the scene an hour later.

The credibility issue now is the way Williams phrased the apology. He made it sound like he was right behind the wounded helicopter, but he was an hour away when it happened. For some reason, Williams felt the needed to be closer to the incident than he was. Some viewers say Williams might be experiencing memory-loss issues. He may have forgotten the fact that all people needed to hear was he was close enough to report the story in the first place.
