Russell westbrook ran into something on friday after his game with the denver nuggets, and it wasn’t a pick. After the game was over, russell was walking of the court, when he bumped into a wondering fan. The fan was cheering and taunting the defeated Oklahoma city team. After the taunt, russell pushes him in the chest, looking at him in disbelief. Like who allowed you on the court? No security is to be found in this video, although refferes do come to break the party up. Paraphrased he said he was acting precautiously for his own safety, and tried to move the fan out of his way. He had the following to say on the topic “You gotta be able to protect the players, man,” he said. “The fans are obviously there to enjoy the game, but they can’t come onto the floor. That’s totally unacceptable.” you cant help but agree with him. Fans simply should not be allowed on the floor. he went on to say. “They’ll look at it and figure out what’s the best way to deal with it, but to me, that’s just totally unacceptable.” –

Normally, the NBA would fine players immediately when a situation like this occurs, and often side with the fan. Russell did not shy away from the confrontation, and has not received any punishment for this altercation. On the other hand the fan was kicked out, and banned from future games at the Pepsi Center in Denver. You can’t help but blame security when something like this happens. There are a lot of people in an arena and its there jobs to keep everyone safe out there, Players and Fans. Players should not be in the position to have to defend themselves, and fans should respect players space. We hope to see the NBA look into making these arenas safer, for both spectators and athletes.
