On Monday, actress Amber Heard filed for divorce from superstar Johnny Depp. The couple, who have been married for 15 months, are calling it quits.
Heard alleges that she and Depp got into an altercation on Saturday which resulted in Depp hitting her in the face with a cell phone, pulling her hair and screaming at her. Depp was high and drunk during the attack, she claims. Heard has since filed a restraining order and submitted a picture of her bruised face. The restraining order was granted by a Los Angeles superior court judge on Friday.
Depp, who turns 53 on June 9, is best known for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The estranged couple met while filming the 2011 adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s novel, “The Rum Diary.” They began dating in late 2012 and then married in Februrary 2015.
In the days after the divorce became public, Depp faced vitriolic scrutiny from the press and on social media. Now Depp’s friends are coming to his side, including comedian Doug Stanhope. Stanhope claims that Heard is blackmailing Depp for refusing to meet her demands and that she intended to leave him all along. Also defending Depp is his ex-girlfriend and mother of his two children, Vanessa Paradis. Paradis writes of Depp, “he is a sensitive and loving and loved person” and goes on to say that he was never physically abusive to her once in their 14 year relationship.
